Why it’s so hard for conservatives to unify behind one candidate

Why it’s so hard for conservatives to unify behind one candidate
By JOHN DICKERSON

[CBSNews.com] The field of announced Republican candidates has recently doubled to six, with the entry of Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, and Mike Huckabee. When you add the candidates who are almost certain to soon join the race–Jeb Bush, Gov. Scott Walker, Rick Perry, and Gov. Chris Christie–and the others who might, the field will be big enough to fill an airport shuttle van. The stage at the first Fox News debate in early August will have so many people on it, the organizers may need to put everyone on bleachers.

The Republican presidential pageant is vastly more diverse than the Democratic coronation. The GOP field includes a female CEO, a black surgeon, two Cuban Americans, a lawyer, and a preacher.

Philly: N.H. coalition tries to tug GOP vote away from the center

The prospective presidential candidates who showed up for the GOP cattle call in Nashua last weekend heeded the plea from state party chair Jennifer Horn to refrain from intraparty squabbles. Not so for the conservative activists who stuck around for Sunday’s alternative conference.

The “Summit of Grassroots Activists” was hosted by the 603 Alliance, a new political committee attempting to coalesce support among conservatives for a single presidential candidate and leverage that support to help the endorsed candidate win the party’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary.

New Hampshire Activists Launch Two New Initiatives on April 19

Concord (March 19, 2015) – On April 19, in the City of Nashua, New Hampshire, the live-free-or-die state, there was a loud bang very much like the shot heard around the world made on April 19, 1775 in Massachusetts.

Well-known Conservative activists and like-minded constitutionalists in New Hampshire and surrounding states launched their new initiative, the 603 Alliance for the purpose of impacting the outcome of the New Hampshire First-in-the-National Primary election.

These activists realize from past elections that splitting their votes among numerous conservative candidates enables the moderate establishment to cruise to victory, and that only a consolidating effort on their parts will result in a victory for a conservative candidate.
The 603 Alliance found a solution to this problem and presented it to their supporters at the Summit meeting on April 19th, when the 603 Alliance was launched at the Crown Plaza in Nashua, New Hampshire.

A separate, though complimentary, organization has also been launched in New Hampshire and shares principles similar to those of the 603 Alliance. The Conservative Business League of New Hampshire, LLC (CBL-NH) is a membership organization of concerned citizens and businesses, whose goal is to educate the citizens of New Hampshire about constitutional conservative candidates who embody the principles of CBL-NH. These principles include personal and economic freedom, as well as working toward a debt-free future.

The focus of CBL-NH includes immigration reform, tax reform, and adherence to the 1st, 2nd, 9th, and 10th amendments to the US Constitution. The primary focus for 2015 will be the Presidential Primary and the conservative candidates, with a shift in 2016 to the State and Federal races.
CBL-NH will provide support for candidates by holding events for its members and supporters and will aggressively promote and provide candidate access to non-traditional Republicans, constitutionalists and conservatives, disenfranchised voters, and undeclared voters.

NH Conservatives Plot to Unite Against Jeb Bush

[Breitbart.com]  A group of conservatives and libertarians in New Hampshire have come up with a plan they hope will block former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) from becoming the Republican party’s nominee for President.

The idea is to hold their own presidential caucus in October and select a candidate behind whom they would all unite.

The group is called the “603 Alliance,” named after the only area code in New Hampshire. According to a report by Politico, the plan was instigated by “years of simmering discontent within the state Republican party,” as conservative, libertarian, and Tea Party activists have grown increasingly frustrated with the moderate Republicans who have won the state’s primary in recent years.
